TEAM REASON ANNOUNCES THE THIRD ANNUAL

RON SMITH MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT

Monday, June 2, 2014 at the Bon Air Country Club in Glen Rock, PA.

Proceeds from Team Reason's third annual memorial golf tournament will support the progressive research being done at Johns Hopkins in Ron's memory.

To date, nearly $500,000 has been raised for the Ron Smith Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund at Hopkins. The number of individual lives that will be impacted by such acts generosity reinforces Ron’s commitment to transforming the way pancreatic cancer is detected, diagnosed and treated.

No doubt, Ron would have been humbled by the generous outpouring in his honor and Team Reason's dedication to his legacy.



 

A foursome includes lunch and dinner (with an open bar) after golfing and a silent auction.

NOVEMBER 29,2012: THE VITALE FAMILY "REMEMBERED RON"

Our dear friends, The Vitale Family, owners of Aldo's Ristorante www.aldositaly.com and Chazz a Bronx Original Restaurant www.chazzbronxoriginal.com with Chazz Palminteri, hosted a spectacular Wine Dinner at Aldo's.

The Vitale Family doted over us during Ron’s illness, lovingly prepared and delivered delicious meals to us, and they continue to be a very important part of my life. I am blessed to be part of their family and grateful for their generosity.

Having dined at Aldo’s many, many times, I knew it would be una serata favolos and it certainly was. Proceeds benefitted the Ron Smith Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund at Hopkins. Here are the details of the wonderful evening:

 OCTOBER 23, 2012:  TEAM REASON NIGHT AT STEVENSON UNIVERSITY. Each season at Stevenson (www.stevenson.edu), the Men's Soccer Team holds a fundraiser on the night of a home game.

Thanks to Men's Soccer Coach John Plevyak--and a long time listener of Ron's show--the 2012 team fundraiser honored Ron and the Mother of their Director of Admissions, who passed away in early June from pancreatic cancer. Proceeds from the event benefitted the Ron Smith Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund at Hopkins.

The University community and student organizations were behind the event with vigor and the team wore special purple uniforms that evening.

Big shout out to the University, Coach Pleyvak and the Men's Soccer Team for a wonderful event under the stars at the Stevenson Stadium in Owings Mills.

OCTOBER 28, 2012:  TEAM REASON INAUGURAL "REMEMBERING RON" BULL & OYSTER ROAST benefitting the Ron Smith Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund at Hopkins.

Great food, a live band, a deluxe cash bar, a silent auction and lots of Ron Smith stories made for a lively and fun event.

JUNE 23, 2012:  Our friends at Brooks-Huff honored Ron at their annual  Customer Appreciation Event at the Shrewsbury location, 233 Main St, Shrewsbury, PA 17361.

A free Bounce House, Face Painting, Pony Rides and Door Prizes; the #22 Shell/Pennzoil Nascar was on Display along with a dual Side by Side Nascar Simulator and a Pit Stop Challenge Game;  and 107.7 WGTY's live remove made for a fun afternoon.  A portion of the proceeds from the food & drinks sold by Shrewsbury Fire Department benefitted the Ron Smith Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund at Hopkins and Brooks-Huff matched those proceeds.

JUNE 16, 2012: Our friend, Baltimore Media Group CEO Tom Ainsley, www.baltimoremediagroup.com, former colleague of Ron’s at WBAL, and his staff "Ran for Ron" to raise money for the Ron Smith Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund at Hopkins at the Survivor Harbor 7 Road Race.

MAY 22, 2012: The Inaugural “COCKTAILS FOR THE CAUSE”   at Joey Chiu’s Greenspring Inn (www.joeychiurestaurant.com), 10801 Falls Road in Lutherville was delightful.

Thanks to all those who joined us to remember The Voice of Reason and raise money for the Ron Smith Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund at Johns Hopkins.

Future “Cocktails for the Cause gatherings are in the planning stages and I’ll post the information when the details are finalized.

All those in attendance enjoyed the fine food, chatting with the family of Ron Smith, fellow Team Reason members, many of Ron's long-time callers and the dynamic emcee duo of 98 Rock's Amelia and Sarah Fleischer. Thanks to all who made it a very successful event.

FEBRUARY 9, 2012:  "Toast to Talkshowman" at Johanssonns Dining House, 4 West Main Street, Westminster, MD 21157 (410 878-0101) for the unveiling and tasting of Master Brewer Jay Lampart's "Reason Saison" an excellent beer he brewed and named in Ron's honor. 

As Hopkins' pancreatic research director (and Ron's oncologist), Dr. Dan Laheru said, "Wow! Having a brew named after you or your cause is the ultimate recognition!"
